Pumpkin enzyme peel
The Skintuitive Skincare Pumpkin Enzyme Peel is one of our most precious weapons!
We love it and you will love what it can do for you!
Pumpkin enzyme 10%
Salicylic acid 10%
Glycolic acid 10%
Skintuitive Skincare’s Pumpkin Enzyme Peel is a mild peel featuring AHA’s & BHA’s from Glycolic Acid, Pumpkin Enzyme and Salicylic Acid which work together to soften the skin and brighten the complexion.
Salicylic acid is well known as a gold-standard ingredient for fighting acne and breakouts, and here’s why:
#1: It can exfoliate skin both on the surface and in the pores
AHAs are very cool, but they are water soluble and cannot go into the pores. SA is lipid (fat) soluble and it can go right into the pores and shed the trapped, dead skin cells out from there. That’s really good for treating blackheads as well as preventing acne formation. This was confirmed also by a study that compared 8% AHA and 2% BHA for treating blackheads. AHA did not decrease the blackhead density statistically significantly, but BHA did.
#2: SA is a potent anti-inflammatory
The chemical structure of SA is very similar to aspirin, and it does have similar anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory effect. That is helpful both for acne and rosacea.
Glycolic Acid is one of the most well-known AHA’s, along with Lactic Acid. It’s another superhero skincare ingredient, and for good reason. So glycolic acid is the smallest and simplest of the AHA family and is found naturally in grape, sugar cane juice, sugar beet and Virginia creeper leaves. Lets take a look at some quick facts:
It’s the most researched AHA with the most proven skin benefits
It gently lifts off dead skin cells to reveal newer, fresher, smoother skin
It can help skin’s own collagen production that results in firmer, younger skin
It can fade brown spots caused by sun damage
It can exfoliate
It can gently lift off dead skin cells on the surface of your skin revealing the newer, fresher and nicer skin cells underneath. This is called exfoliation. Your skin already exfoliates itself naturally renewing the upper layer of the skin every 3-5 weeks. But as usual: this process slows down and gets faulty with age, with exposure to sun, pollution and all the usual bad stuff. So a little external help in the form of AHAs is usually very helpful! And the most awesome part: this effect is quick! With a quality AHA product, you will see pretty much immediate results in terms of fresher, smoother skin.
It can increase collagen synthesis
Fresher and smoother skin is already awesome enough to make us a fan but what really earned our superstar rating is glycolic acid’s proven ability to increase collagen synthesis. There are really only a few ingredients that can do that and glycolic acid is one of them. Actually this is the biggest benefit of glycolic acid compared to all the other AHAs. The skin firming, collagen boosting ability seems to be the best with the smallest and simplest version of all the AHAs (probably because being the smallest means also that it can penetrate the deepest). But be patient: collagen synthesis takes time, so this one is a long-term benefit. Count as much as 4-6 month to see some change.
It reduces hyperpigmentation
Brownish spots are usually not something that we want on our face (or anywhere else…) and honestly they are really stubborn things that are hard to fade with cosmetic products. But glycolic acid is something that can help to speed up the process. Studies show that it can disperse melanin in our skin (the natural pigment that gives the color of our skin, but too much of it results in brown spots) and it’s also very useful for fading the brownish marks left after inflamed acne (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or PIH).
So now we come to our namesake – the Pumpkin Enzymes. When you hear pumpkin you probably think of Halloween, but it turns out that many forms of pumpkin are also great skincare ingredients.
This particular form is obtained by fermenting the pumpkin fruit with lactobacillus lactis. During the fermentation, many of the complex biomolecules are broken down into isolated phytochemicals and selective filtration techniques are used to isolate the proteolytic parts. The result is pumpkin enzyme that is a gentle exfoliator that can be an alternative to AHAs.
According to lab studies, 4% glycolic acid has a similar effect on cell renewal as 5% pumpkin enzyme. In an irritation test, the pumpkin enzyme did not irritate even the sensitive eye tissue and was hardly more irritating than glycerin. Not only is Pumpkin Enzyme a fantastic exfoliator, it has the added benefits that come with fermentation: probiotic goodness!
Fermented foods have been considered superfoods for centuries and lately these powerful ingredients have been making their way into skincare. We won’t lie to you. There isn’t enough scientific evidence yet to claim topical probiotics have the power to completely repopulate your skin’s microbiome and solve all your problems. But there is evidence they can significantly contribute to improving your overall skin health.
The fermentation process breaks down ingredients into smaller molecules making them much easier for your skin to absorb. Fermentation also increases the concentration of these active ingredients making them even more effective. Pumpkin Enzyme is rich in antioxidants that helps gently increase cellular turnover to promote brighter skin . This best supports those who suffer with skin symptoms like dryness and flakiness.
So, when we look at the benefits of our 3 hero ingredients on their own, it’s not hard to see why the Skintuitive Skincare Pumpkin Enzyme Peel is such a popular treatment for our clients.
Skin is refreshed and renewed, revealing brighter, softer skin that glows with health and vitality.
